Samsung a développé une architecture de sécurité basée sur le matériel qui permet à certains de ses smartphones d’embarquer une version électronique des cartes d’identité, permis de conduire et autres pièces d’identification personnelle. L’Allemagne vient de certifier le Galaxy S20 qui devient le premier smartphone du constructeur respectant toutes les normes de sécurité pour remplacer la carte nationale d’identité dans le pays.
Dans un communiqué publié ce jeudi 23 juillet 2020, Samsung a annoncé que certains smartphones Galaxy, à commencer par le Galaxy S20, seront en mesure de porter une version électronique de la carte nationale d’identité allemande. Pour y arriver, l’entreprise a collaboré avec l’Office fédéral allemand de la sécurité de l’information et la société de sécurité Deutsche Telekom Security.
« S’appuyant sur l’héritage des smartphones Galaxy en matière de sécurité mobile, le Galaxy S20 offre une solution innovante d’identification électronique (eID) pour aider les utilisateurs à gérer facilement leurs documents personnels et permettre une identification et une authentification transparentes », écrit l’entreprise dans son communiqué. Le Galaxy S20 est le premier appareil conforme aux exigences de sécurité strictes du gouvernement allemand, mais aussi de l’Union européenne.
Le smartphone combine des solutions logicielles et une plateforme matérielle de pointe qui garantissent le niveau de sécurité nécessaire pour offrir une nouvelle solution d’identification sur mobile. Plus tard cette année, les utilisateurs pourront stocker leurs documents d’identité les plus importants directement sur leur smartphone.
Comment ça marche ?
Samsung proposera une application qui sera bientôt disponible sur le Play Store. Grâce à celle-ci, les utilisateurs pourront ajouter leur carte d’identité au smartphone en l’apposant sur le dos de ce dernier, puis en rentrant un code PIN de vérification. Ce processus n’est donc valable qu’avec les cartes d’identité biométriques contenant une puce NFC. Le système est conçu pour empêcher tout vol ou usurpation d’identité, et ce, même si des personnes malintentionnées ont un accès physique au smartphone.
À l’avenir, les autorités allemandes envisagent de rendre d’autres documents comme le permis de conduire et la carte nationale d’assurance maladie compatibles avec cette solution. Récemment, la Corée du Sud a introduit un système similaire permettant de remplacer le permis de conduire par un smartphone. Ce qu’on ignore pour l’instant c’est si la solution de Samsung sera uniquement utilisée pour les besoins d’authentification en ligne ou si elle remplacera à terme les pièces d’identité physiques.
